Millions Watch As Total Solar Eclipse Darkens Europe

On August 12, millions of people across Europe looked up to see something special. A total solar eclipse turned the day into night.
This happens when the moon moves right in front of the sun. It blocks out the sunlight for a few minutes. Even in the middle of the day, the sky goes dark and the air gets cooler.
Cameras on the ground and in space caught amazing pictures of the event. You could see the sun’s outer glow, which is called the corona. It looks like a bright ring of white light around the dark moon.
