For a long time, many right-wing politicians in Europe saw Donald Trump as a hero. They liked his style and his 'America First' message. They thought he was the future of politics. But things are changing.
Today, many of these European leaders are starting to drift away from the MAGA movement. Why? It comes down to a few big reasons.
First, there is the war in Ukraine. Many European leaders are very worried about Russia. They feel that Donald Trump might not stand by Ukraine if he wins again. This makes them nervous about their own safety. They need someone who is 100% on their side.
Second, there is the issue of trade. Trump has talked about putting big taxes on things Europe sells to the U.S. This is called a 'tariff.' If he does this, it could hurt businesses in Europe. These leaders don't want to lose money just because of a new U.S. policy.
Finally, some European leaders just want to be seen as more independent. They think being too close to Trump makes them look weak or like they are just copying him. They want to show their own voters that they can stand on their own two feet.
It is a big change. A few years ago, being close to Trump was a way to get attention and support. Now, for many in Europe, it is starting to look like a risk they don't want to take.
