Airport officials in Peru recently caught travelers trying to smuggle a massive number of live spiders out of the country. They found more than 3,000 tarantulas hidden inside bags.
Here is how they did it: The spiders were tucked away inside socks. The smugglers had packed the socks into their luggage to try and hide the creatures from security.
Authorities found the spiders during a routine check. Among the three people caught was a person from Poland.
It is illegal to take wild animals out of the country like this. Officials took all the spiders away. They are now working to make sure the tarantulas are cared for and returned to their natural home.
Police are still investigating the case.
