A strong earthquake shook the southern Andes mountains in Peru today. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the quake at a 6.7 magnitude. This is a measure of how much energy the ground releases during a shake.
Reports say at least two people were hurt. There is also damage to some homes in the area.
News outlets are giving different details. While some reports mention damage to homes, other sources like Bloomberg initially said no damage was reported. There is also some confusion about the size of the quake, with some reports mentioning a 7.2-magnitude tremor that was felt as far away as the capital city, Lima.
Rescue teams and local officials are still looking at the area to see how bad the damage is. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
