PRAGUE — As an intense summer heatwave settles over Europe, the Prague Zoo has taken proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its polar bear population. With temperatures soaring, zookeepers are providing the animals with massive ice blocks to help them regulate their body temperatures and cope with the oppressive conditions.

Animal welfare experts at the facility have implemented a specialized heat management plan, which includes access to chilled dens, misting systems, and frequent frozen enrichment activities. The ice blocks, often embedded with treats or fruits, serve as both a cooling mechanism and a form of mental stimulation for the bears, who are accustomed to much colder climates.

The current heatwave is part of a broader pattern of extreme weather affecting Central Europe, prompting local authorities to issue health warnings for both humans and animals. Prague Zoo officials confirmed that the bears are responding well to the interventions and remain under constant veterinary observation.
