The U.S. Army is planning to shut down a special unit that focused on learning about drone warfare.

This group was based in Europe. Its main goal was to watch the war between Ukraine and Russia to see how drones are changing the way soldiers fight. The military hoped to use those lessons to improve how American troops handle drone threats on the battlefield.

The unit was famously supported by a general who was recently fired from his position. Now, with new leadership taking over, the Army has decided to end the program.

Officials haven't given a detailed reason for the shutdown, but the move comes as the new administration shifts its priorities for the military. Some experts worry that stopping this unit could leave the U.S. falling behind in understanding how small, cheap drones are changing modern wars.

For now, the soldiers who were part of this project will be moved to other assignments within the Army.
