A group that keeps an eye on government ethics is taking the Trump administration to court. The group, called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (or CREW for short), is trying to stop Jared Kushner from doing government work.
Kushner, who is Donald Trump’s son-in-law, has been acting as a special envoy. This means he helps talk to foreign countries on behalf of the United States. CREW says this work is against the rules.
The group argues that Kushner is holding a government position that he is not allowed to have. They believe his role creates major conflicts of interest. A conflict of interest happens when someone’s personal life or business deals might make them choose something that isn't best for the country.
Several news outlets have reported on the lawsuit. The group wants the courts to step in and force the administration to stop using him in this role. They believe he is acting as a diplomat without following the laws meant to keep government jobs fair and honest.
So far, the Trump administration has not backed down, and the lawsuit aims to make that change.
