The U.S. government is sending some immigrants to a country called the Central African Republic. Many of these people are not originally from there. Some come from countries like Cuba or Iran.
Once they arrive, these people say they are in a lot of danger. One man from Cuba said he is stuck and cannot leave the country. He and others say they were deported—which is a formal way of saying the government forced them to leave the U.S. and sent them back away.
Now, news reports show that immigration officials are still trying to send people to this same place. For example, a woman from Iran who was living in Georgia is currently facing this same situation.
People who study these things say the Central African Republic is one of the most dangerous places in the world. The people being sent there are afraid for their lives because they have no ties to the country and do not know how to stay safe there.
The government is facing questions about why they are choosing to send people to such a risky place. For now, the people who were sent there remain stuck in a country they do not know, unable to leave and afraid of what might happen next.
