There is a lot of talk right now about whether Ukraine and Russia might start talking about peace.

Some high-ranking officials in Ukraine, like those working for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, have suggested that talks could possibly happen as soon as September. This idea has sparked a lot of discussion about whether there is a path to end the war.

However, it is not that simple. Other leaders are being much more cautious. The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, has been very clear: he says that Ukraine cannot stop fighting right now. He expects the war to keep going straight through the upcoming winter months.

Kyrylo Budanov, who leads Ukraine’s military intelligence, also weighed in. He mentioned that while talks might resume in September, he also warned that trying to end the war right now is just not realistic.

So, what does this mean? It means the situation is changing quickly. While some officials hope for "technical talks"—which are basic meetings to discuss specific issues rather than a full peace deal—the reality on the ground is that both sides are still preparing for a long, hard fight.

For now, Ukraine’s stance remains that the fighting is far from over, even if officials are looking for ways to open doors to future conversations.
