Civilians living in a town held by the Russian army are making a desperate run for safety. They are walking along roads that are covered in hidden bombs, known as landmines. People are risking their lives just to leave because the situation inside has become impossible.
Reports from the area say that no food has been delivered to the town since May. Residents are starving and many are calling the area a 'death trap.' Because there is no food and no help coming, families feel they have no other choice but to flee, even if the road out is dangerous.
Some help is arriving from the sky. Ukrainian forces are using 'Vampire' drones to drop food supplies to the people stuck inside. These drones are small, flying machines that can carry packages directly to those who need them most. While this helps, it is not enough to fix the fact that many people are trapped behind enemy lines.
The people fleeing are walking through areas that are heavily mined. This means one wrong step could be fatal. Despite this, the hunger and fear are so great that they would rather face the bombs than stay in the town any longer.
International officials and news outlets continue to watch the situation closely as more civilians attempt to reach safety.
