Wars used to be fought with just tanks and planes. Now, they are fought online, too. Countries like Ukraine and Russia are starting to bomb data centers.

Data centers are big buildings full of powerful computers. They store all the information that keeps the internet running. When these buildings get hit, websites go down and data vanishes.

Recent attacks have shown just how fragile our digital world really is. In one case, a strike aimed at a Russian bot farm—a group of computers used to spread fake news—caused a massive outage. People assumed the bots were destroyed for good. But researchers at Cloudflare found that wasn’t true. The bots didn't stop; they just moved to other servers to keep working.

This tells us two big things:

First, data centers are now official military targets. If you can knock out an enemy’s computer network, you can hurt them without firing a shot at a soldier.

Second, it’s not as easy as it looks. Even when buildings are destroyed, the people running the bots just switch to different computers. It's like playing a game of whack-a-mole.

The fighting is no longer just on the ground. It is happening in the servers that hold our websites, our emails, and our information. As wars continue, expect these digital hubs to stay right in the middle of the crossfire.
