The Israeli military says it now controls a major, high-ground area in southern Lebanon called the Ali al-Taher ridge.

For some time, Israeli and Hezbollah forces have been fighting to take control of this hill. It is considered a strategic location, meaning it gives a big advantage to whoever holds it because they can see and control the area around it.

Israel says its troops have cleared the area of Hezbollah fighters. They also reported finding and clearing out tunnels that the group had built under the ridge.

This comes after months of fighting in the region, even after a ceasefire deal was supposed to stop the conflict.

Hezbollah has used these kinds of hilly areas to hide and launch attacks. By taking the ridge, Israel is trying to stop those attacks from happening and weaken the group's presence near the border.

Both sides remain in a tense standoff as the fighting continues to affect the region.
