This group was based in Russia. They were running what experts call a "covert influence campaign." This means they were trying to change how people think about current events by using fake information. They didn't want anyone to know who was really behind it.

According to reports, this group created fake social media profiles and even set up a fake think tank. They used ChatGPT to help write articles, social media posts, and other content that looked real but wasn't. They were targeting various audiences to spread their message.

OpenAI found out what was happening and decided to shut them down. They banned all the accounts that were connected to this project. The company says they are working hard to stop people from using their tools to trick the public or spread harmful propaganda.

This is not the first time companies have had to step in to stop groups from using AI to spread lies. As AI technology gets better, it is becoming easier for people to create fake text, photos, and videos that look very convincing.
