Russia is changing how it attacks Ukraine. They are moving away from older tactics and using new, faster weapons to target the capital, Kyiv, and other parts of the country.

One of the biggest concerns is a new kind of Shahed drone. These drones now have jet engines, making them much faster than the older models. One of these new drones recently traveled a record-breaking distance, reaching the Volyn region for the first time.

Serhii Palisa, a military official, says these jet-powered drones are a major problem. He admits that current defense systems are not yet good enough at stopping them. Because these drones move so fast, they are much harder for Ukrainian defenders to track and shoot down.

Despite the new technology, Ukraine’s air defense remains busy. Over the last day, they reported shooting down 199 out of 224 Russian drones. Even with that high success rate, the attacks are still causing damage.

Kyiv and several other regions have been put under alert for ballistic missiles—which are fast, long-range weapons—and drones. Reports are coming in of fires at storage buildings caused by these strikes.

Experts say the shift to these faster drones shows that Russia is trying to find new ways to get past Ukraine's defenses, putting more pressure on the country's military and civilians.
