Russia launched a massive wave of missile attacks on Ukraine today. The strikes hit the capital city of Kyiv, killing at least 15 to 17 people. Officials say these attacks are part of a larger plan to overwhelm Ukraine's defenses.
Defense experts warn that Russia is planning to fire as many as 200 missiles in this new wave. The goal seems to be causing as much damage as possible to cities and homes.
This fighting is also moving beyond Ukraine’s borders. Explosions were reported in territory belonging to neighboring Romania and Moldova. This has raised concerns that the war could spread even further.
A retired U.S. Army colonel said that these attacks on civilian areas are not accidents. He believes they are a clear part of Russia’s strategy to win the war by targeting people and homes directly.
Life in many Ukrainian cities is now extremely dangerous. People are hiding in shelters as the country prepares for more missile salvos. Experts from the Institute for the Study of War are tracking the situation closely, noting that the Russian offensive is continuing to put immense pressure on Ukraine.
