Things are heating up in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces are stepping up their attacks in the Donetsk region. They are specifically trying to move closer to the city of Slovyansk.
Valery Gerasimov, a top Russian military leader, claimed that his troops are making progress toward the city. However, experts from the Institute for the Study of War say the situation on the ground doesn't quite match his claims. They have been mapping out exactly where the fighting is happening, and they suggest Russia is not as far along as they say they are.
While the fighting continues on the ground, there is also news about money. Ukraine is happy about a new push from the European Union. The EU wants to use Russian money that they have "frozen"—meaning they’ve locked it up so Russia can’t touch it—to help Ukraine. This money would be a big deal for Ukraine as they keep fighting to defend their land.
