Normally, ships travel much longer ways to move goods around the world. The Arctic is becoming easier to travel through because the ice there is melting.
If ships can use this shortcut, it would save a lot of time and money for companies. However, this plan has some people worried.
Western countries are concerned about this move. They worry about the environment in the Arctic. They are also concerned about who controls these waters and how it might change global politics.
