Talks to end the standoff between the U.S. and Iran are in trouble. After a tense weekend in Qatar, Iran’s team has walked away from the negotiating table.

Iran says the latest proposal from the United States is "unconvincing." Earlier, Iran had suggested it might reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a vital shipping path for oil—within two days if a deal could be reached. Now, it seems that hope is fading.

Adding to the frustration, the U.S. carried out new military strikes right before the midterm elections. Iran says these strikes make it much harder to reach an agreement.

Back in the U.S., former President Donald Trump confirmed that these strikes took place. He acknowledged that the ongoing conflict with Iran has hurt his party’s standing with voters, but he continues to stand by his decision to take military action.

For now, the situation remains at a standstill. There is no clear path forward, and officials on both sides are playing down the chances of a quick deal.
