Ukraine Celebrates Independence Day with Prayers for Peace

Ukraine marked its Independence Day this week with a focus on peace and freedom. Across the country, leaders and citizens gathered to pray for an end to the ongoing war.
At a National Prayer Breakfast in Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined religious leaders to talk about the strength of the nation. Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, the leader of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, spoke to the group. He reminded everyone that freedom is a gift that must be protected and never taken for granted.
Archbishop Shevchuk emphasized that the state must protect the dignity of its people. This means treating every person with respect and ensuring the country stays free and strong.
Religious leaders from different groups also came together at St. Sophia Cathedral. They held special services to pray for the people of Ukraine. They called on the rest of the world not to grow tired of helping Ukraine as the war continues.
These events served as a reminder that even during hard times, many people in Ukraine are finding hope through their faith and their shared goal of a peaceful, independent future.
