Ukraine is working on building its own ballistic missiles. These are long-range weapons that fly high into the air and then fall down onto a target.
Ukraine’s former defense minister says these weapons could be ready to use in about three to six months.
Right now, Ukraine relies a lot on weapons sent by other countries. Those countries often have strict rules about how those weapons can be used. By making their own, Ukraine hopes to have more control over how they fight back against Russia.
Experts and news reports suggest these new missiles could put Russian targets—and possibly even the Russian leadership—within striking distance.
At the same time, military analysts are watching Ukraine change its tactics. They are now trying to hit the Russian planes that carry dangerous Kinzhal missiles before those planes even have a chance to take off.
If these new, home-made missiles work as planned, it would be a big change in the war. It would show that Ukraine is becoming more self-reliant in its fight.
