Russia has been telling the world that its new Zircon missile is a super-fast 'hypersonic' weapon that is impossible to stop. But now, experts in Ukraine are saying that might not be true.

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency recently got their hands on parts of a Zircon missile that was fired at them. They took it apart to see how it actually works.

Here is what they found:

First, they think it isn't really a 'hypersonic cruise missile.' Instead, they believe it is actually a ballistic missile. A cruise missile flies like a small, fast airplane. A ballistic missile gets launched high into space and then drops back down toward its target. Because it works differently, it might be easier to track and shoot down than Russia claimed.

Second, the missile does not carry a very big bomb. The explosive part inside is quite small. It is much smaller than people expected for a weapon that is supposed to be so powerful.

Third, the experts found pieces of technology inside the missile that were made in other countries. This means Russia had to rely on parts from outside of their own borders to build it.

For a long time, Russia used the Zircon missile to scare other countries, claiming it was a 'wonder weapon' that no defense system could touch. These new findings from Ukraine suggest the missile is not as special or as terrifying as Russia wanted everyone to believe.
