Zelenskyy: Holding Elections During the War Would Destroy Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this week that holding an election while the war is still going on would be a huge mistake. He warned that it would 'destroy' Ukraine.
Zelenskyy’s comments come after some people in his government suggested it might be time to vote. One of those people was a former government minister, Mykhailo Fedorov. He recently hinted that the country should be looking into government corruption and perhaps move toward elections.
Zelenskyy pushed back hard against this idea. He made it clear that he thinks trying to run a national election while fighting a war is too dangerous. He believes it would cause too much division when the country needs to be united to defend itself.
The debate has put a spotlight on the political situation inside Ukraine. While the country is focused on the front lines, there are growing questions about how the government is being run and how it handles issues like corruption.
For now, the President is firm: the priority is the war, not the ballot box.
