Experts Call Putin’s War Claims 'Hallucinations'
Military analysts say Russia's claims of winning big on the battlefield just don't match the reality on the ground.

Vladimir Putin is claiming that Russia is making big gains in its war against Ukraine. But experts who watch the fighting closely say he is wrong.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) recently looked at the situation. They said Putin’s claims are so far from the truth that they 'border on hallucinations.' That means they think he is describing a version of the war that isn't really happening.
Other groups, like Critical Threats and Russia Matters, have been keeping track of the fighting. Their recent reports show that the situation on the ground looks very different than what Moscow says.
In fact, some maps show that Ukraine actually made major gains in September. During that same time, data suggests that the number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded reached its highest point of the year 2026.
Military analysts continue to track these changes every day. They say it is important to look at the actual facts on the ground instead of just listening to what leaders say about the war.
