Hundreds of doctors and medical workers are calling on the World Medical Association (WMA) to suspend Israel. The WMA is an international group that sets ethical rules for doctors all over the world.

The group of doctors says Israel should be removed because of the ongoing war in Gaza. They argue that the Israeli Medical Association has not done enough to stop the destruction of the healthcare system in the region. They also pointed to the treatment of Palestinian medical workers, including Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who has become a symbol for those working in extremely dangerous conditions.

Not everyone agrees with this push. Critics, including writers for The Times of Israel, argue that using medicine as a political weapon is wrong. They believe medical groups should focus on health and science instead of taking sides in complex international conflicts.

Support for the move is growing in some places. For example, a group called Pax Christi held a vigil in Liverpool to support Palestinian doctors. On the other side, others see these demands as an attempt to unfairly target Israel on the world stage.

So far, the WMA has not said if it will act on these requests. The debate continues as healthcare workers struggle to provide care in the middle of a conflict zone.
