A group of nations is working together on a new security deal called the Mecca Pact. This plan is meant to keep the region safe, but it is already facing some big challenges.

The countries involved are planning a high-level meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 5. This will be the first major test for the group to see if they can work together effectively.

Security is the main focus. Saudi Arabia has made it clear that they will not settle for anything less than total safety. This comes after the Houthi rebels—a group fighting against the current government in Yemen—continued to create instability in the area. Saudi leaders say the Houthis are choosing chaos over peace.

Other countries are also getting involved. Pakistan is stepping up to provide support to Saudi Arabia as they deal with the ongoing conflict with the Houthis. It seems like the project is growing, too. Officials in Pakistan recently shared that more than six other countries have expressed interest in joining the defense pact.

Right now, the big question is whether this group can actually stop the fighting and make the region safer. With the meeting in Riyadh just around the corner, everyone is watching to see if these countries can stick to their promise.
