NATO countries say they have stopped a secret Russian plan. The plan was to damage cables that run along the bottom of the ocean. These cables are very important. They carry most of the world's internet traffic and phone calls.

Officials from several NATO countries confirmed the news. They said they were watching the Russian operation closely. Because they were watching, they were able to step in and stop the plot before any damage was done.

These cables are what keep the world connected. If they were cut, it would cause major problems for internet and banking services. Russia has been accused of keeping ships near these cables in the past to spy on them. This time, however, NATO says it was an active attempt to cause real harm.

In other news from the region, the war in Ukraine continues to be violent. Today, Russian forces hit a shopping center. Reports say at least five people were killed, including children. At least 67 other people were hurt in the attack.

Leaders are calling these actions a sign of how dangerous the current situation has become. NATO remains on high alert to protect its borders and the technology that keeps the world running.
