A big wave of drone attacks hit Russia earlier today. The attacks targeted areas near Moscow and forced officials to shut down all airports in the city.

Reports suggest that Ukraine used drones to carry out the strikes. Some of these drones were reportedly hidden inside weather balloons to avoid being spotted.

Because of the danger, Moscow’s major airports stopped all flights. People on the ground reported hearing loud noises, and a fire even broke out near Sheremetyevo Airport, which is one of the busiest hubs in the region.

This is not the first time drones have reached the Russian capital, but officials say this was a very large attack. Bloomberg reported that Russia claimed to have shot down a record number of Ukrainian drones during this operation.

While Russia dealt with the drones near its capital, they also fired back at Kharkiv in Ukraine. The situation remains tense, and it is unclear how long the airport closures will last. For now, travelers in Moscow are stuck and waiting for updates.
