Things got rough in Portugal this week. People were protesting because they cannot afford housing. They set up camps in the streets of Lisbon and Porto to show how frustrated they are.

Late in the night, the police moved in to clear those camps. It turned into a fight. People were shouting and the police pushed back to break up the groups. By the time it was over, thirteen people had been arrested.

One lawyer, Ricardo Sá Fernandes, called it a "dark night in the history of Portuguese democracy." He was clearly upset about how the police handled the situation.

These protests are not just happening in Portugal. People in Germany are also speaking out about high rent and housing costs. Because of all this unrest, the United States even put out travel warnings for people planning to visit those countries.

The main issue is that many people feel they are being pushed out of their own cities because living costs are too high. For now, the streets have been cleared, but the tension remains high.
